As I`ve written before Moodle has its own MP3 player embedded. This is a nice feature that enables students to listen to my audio lectures without using an external player. But video lectures still had to be open in external players, and thereby invoking the good old compability and cross-platform challenges. So what to do?
Easy, just convert the video lectures into flash.
For video lectures in the form of actual movies, I`ve tested Blaze Media Pro. For Screen Capture Videos lectures, like showing how to create folders in Moodle and upload files to them, I`ve used Macromedia Captivate. Especially Macromedia Captivate is an excellent program that makes flash movies with crystal clear picture and sound, and still keeps the file size on a reasonable level.
So at Nesna University College the experiments with Moodle as a true tool for learning continues. But is providing information in various ways, using sound and picture to complement the text based lectures, really a vehicle for learning? Or do we need to utilize other features of Moodle?
My good colleague Tom Erik Holteng is using Wiki, and the new version of Moodle allows blogging. And what about the Chat and forum tools?
Well, we`ll see what happens as we continue to experiment.
